So I decided not to make it a magazine spread and just go for a one page ad (which would be more likely for a Measure ad) I fought with the colors FOREVER. I kept having problems with my skin tones and Lucy's fur. The highlight and shadows either had too much contrast or not enough. So.. I finally got in okay. Chris gave me the idea to apply the same elements to other documents sizes too. Like if it were to be an ad in a local newspaper.
Okay, so this was originally Jon's Self Portrait project. I don't really like having myself in images and what not so I chose an image with my dog Lucy where she steals the camera's attention, hehe. When Chris and I went over my past work she said that it needed a call to action. So I'm going to find one! I also want to change to maybe a two page ad in a magazine or something. Also, it's going to need an overhaul on the font choice and the image to be re-drawn out. So I'm going to get started on all that. I'm more than willing to hear any other suggestions!
Okay, so I think I'm done with the Calendar finally. It took me a while, but I'm MUCH happier with it. I collected images that reflected the season or the text and changed them into duo-tones. I love it. I also enlarged a lot of the elements on the front, which gives the fronts more flow and less boring. Chris helped me A LOT with the actual calendar because I was just lost. I think this works much better!
I'm going back to the calendar. There are A LOT of changes to be made here, and I was really trying to avoid thinking about it for a while. BUT, I think I'm ready to dive back into it. I need to fix the actual calendar part of it. Kick all the black off it it. Oh, and be sure to create a backside, lol. For the back, Ben gave me a wonderful idea of collecting images for each month and just putting them into a duo-tone of that month's chosen color. Love it, so I'm going to go for it. Thanks Ben! I need to change the background text. It needs to be readable, or barely noticeable. I'm thinking that I'm going to try the later of the too, because I really want the calendar to become a more focal point, instead of ALL the text on there. So.. wish me luck!
Okay, so I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm REALLY struggling to come up with a logo, or ID that actually says something about me that would be relevant to design work. The only thing I got for this is a Sharpie theme. It actually is something personal to me because... well... just take a look at my sketchbooks. They speak for themselves. I'm a doodler at heart, so I like using the sharpie marker for that reason. However, I can't help but get the feeling that it might come off as cheesy to others. So let me know what your feelings are. If I should go on and fix all the details( for instance: curve the text to the shape of the marker). If not, give me the big red X and I'll move on to my next idea.
Okay, for my second project I'm going all the way back to fall term of our first year and revising the 50/50 letter project. There's a couple changes I want to make here. The center "O" isn't actually centered so I'll fix that and really make it a focal point. Then the "y" block which is on the last line, second to last block. That one is not really using the 50 50 relationship of black and white. Then there are some areas where the black doesn't quite line up. When done with that, I'll apply it to a real world thing. Chris suggested that it would be a cool graphic for a bag for a store that starts with O. I had a hard time looking for a store that started with O and would fit. The closest fit I could think of was Old Navy. Any other suggestions??? Thanks!
So for my first project I was to go back and fix my Mercy Corps cover. The country outlines that I had on there are just assaulting my face everytime I look at them now. I want to maybe try to do something different with them, but it I can't make them work... they'll just get fired

fun idea, and ditto.... look forward to seeing how they turn out! read more
